Forget this: “Build a better mousetrap, and the world will beat a path to your door”…THIS IS DEAD WRONG.
There is an infinite number of products and services that you would buy in a second, but you will never buy. That’s because you will never hear about them because the business didn’t figure out that they actually have to do some marketing.
I’ve bought things and asked myself why everyone in the world doesn’t have one. It’s not because it isn’t a million dollar idea, it’s because most people are unaware of its existence. Granted, those companies, made a sale to me, but they missed out on the sale to everyone else.
Build a better mousetrap, and market the crap out of it…and the world will beat a path to your door.
…also, there is this from Wikipedia:
The phrase has turned into a metaphor about the power of innovation, and is frequently taken literally, with more than 4,400 patents issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office for new mousetraps, with thousands more unsuccessful applicants, making them the “most frequently invented device in U.S. history”.
