The question I get most often from potential clients is, “What is the price for designing a website?” As with any project, I bill by the hour and tailor the budget to meet the client’s needs. Still, in general, I can tell you what I charge for a website.
My standard quote is $2,550. That represents 30 hours of time to create a site from scratch. The process goes like this:
- 10 hours to create the initial comps. This includes research, sketches, layouts, revisions, and the creation of the initial presentation of design ideas.
- 20 hours of production time to put up the site. This may be for setting up servers and directing URLs, HTML, CSS, installing content management system, creating content, image creation, and testing.
There’s always something extra in that 20 hours. Some clients need a logo created or revised. Some clients need extra functionality so I have to research and install a plugin or Javascript. Some clients need help writing the copy. When all is said and done it ends up being around 30 hours of work.
